A hearty classic comfort food featuring seasoned ground beef topped with creamy mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 1 cup carrots diced
  • 1 cup peas
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth

Mashed Potatoes

  • 4 cups mashed potatoes from about 2 lbs potatoes
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup milk

Seasonings

  • to taste Salt and pepper

Instructions 

  • Boil potatoes in salted water until fork-tender, then drain and mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper.
  • Sauté onion and carrots in a skillet, then add ground beef and cook until browned.
  • Add garlic, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth; simmer until thickened, then stir in peas.
  • Spread meat mixture in a baking dish, top with mashed potatoes, and create ridges with a fork.
  • Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden and bubbly, then cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use homemade beef broth and fresh vegetables.
