A wholesome and delicious apple cobbler made with fresh Fuji apples and whole wheat flour, perfect for a comforting dessert.

Ingredients

Fruits

  • 4 cups Fuji apples (peeled, cored and sliced) (about 1/4-inch thick (3-4 medium apples))
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup white whole wheat flour (or all-purpose flour)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons cold unsalted butter (cut in small pieces)
  • 1/2 cup skim milk or milk of choice
  • 1-2 tablespoons packed brown sugar

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Mix sliced apples with honey, cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Transfer to a sprayed baking dish.
  • Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly. Add milk and mix until thick.
  • Dollop batter over apples and sprinkle with brown sugar. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden.
  • Let sit for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use fresh apples for best flavor. Adjust sugar to taste.
