A warm, comforting dessert featuring tender honeycrisp apples topped with a crunchy oat and nut topping.

Ingredients

Apple Filling

  • 6 cups Honeycrisp apples (about 6 medium apples), peeled and sliced into 1/2" wedges
  • 2 tsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1.5 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp ground ginger
  • 0.125 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 0.125 tsp ground cloves

Crisp Topping

  • 2 cups old fashioned rolled oats (certified gluten free if needed)
  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 0.75 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 0.5 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.75 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed (regular or plant-based)

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Toss apples with lemon juice, vanilla, sugars, cornstarch, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves. Spread in a baking dish.
  • Bake apples for 10 minutes.
  • Mix oats, almond flour, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon. Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
  • Top baked apples with the crisp mixture. Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden and bubbling.
  • Cool for 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a dairy-free version, use plant-based butter.
